A revolution in plastics
What are "BDP PP and BDP PET"?
The "BDP PET and BDP PP" consist of new revolutionary plastic materials that are fully recyclable and biodegradable*. The tests that these materials have undergone unequivocally confirm these incredible potentials.

Why is "BDP PP and BDP PET" considered revolutionary materials?
Essays conducted in the past have proven that some biodegradable materials under specific conditions, such as polylactic acid (PLA), are not recyclable when integrated into existing recycling systems in Europe. In fact, these materials are even considered contaminants of recyclable plastics.
The revolutionary and innovative nature of "BDP PP and BDP PET" lies in the fact that they are 100% recyclable in European recycling chains and biodegradable* when they eventually reach the end of their useful life. The cost of these products is lower than other materials claiming to have similar properties.

Is there any embarrassment in using "BDP PP and BDP PET"?
The inevitable resistance and reluctance towards the use of this new material, which comes with an added cost, currently constitutes the only limitation to the widespread use of "BDP PP and BDP PET" in the plastics industry. However, a balanced management of the consumption of this product allows for cost reduction.
Is the "BDP PP" and PP materials compatible?
The characteristics of "BDP PP" are identical to those of conventional PP used in the production of packaging and other materials and objects intended for contact with foodstuffs, particularly in terms of transparency and mechanical properties. For this reason, there is complete compatibility in the joint and simultaneous use of both materials in the manufacture of any product.
The same can be said for BDP PET and its use with RPET.
Annually billions of plastic packaging are deposited in landfills instead of being recycled after use.
The use of "BDP PET and BDP PP" in the production of plastic packaging is a viable solution when they reach the end of their useful life as it allows for natural decomposition in a few years instead of lasting for several centuries.
Used industrially in the production of plastic packaging by thermoforming, "BDP PP and BDP PET" are fully recyclable and biodegradable films*. The biodegradability of this innovative material has been confirmed through tests conducted according to ASTM D5511 standard. In this standard test method, used to determine the anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials under high solid content anaerobic digestion conditions, a solid material content of 50% is typically used. The moisture conditions typical of biologically active landfills range from 55% to 65%, and can reach 93% in the case of drier landfills.
The current rates of plastic biodegradation in biologically active landfills vary depending on the type of plastic material and product configuration, as well as the solid content, temperature, and moisture content of the landfill.
The approach to the topic of biodegradable plastics assumes an understanding of the concept of "biodegradation process," which has been subject to incorrect use and interpretation. Plastics that undergo fragmentation or degradation through chemical reactions, UV radiation, and/or mechanical processes are not considered biodegradable. In fact, these materials undergo mere degradation, generating toxins, heavy metals, plastic residues, and other substances that accumulate in the environment.
Plastics are hydrocarbons produced from petroleum, a 100% biodegradable natural organic compound by the action of bacteria. During its distillation process, which takes place at high temperatures, the original organic nutrients are volatilized. Plastic products are designed to be durable and, in the case of packaging, to provide effective protection for the packaged materials. For this reason, it takes hundreds of years for microorganisms to decompose traditional plastics into biogas and biomass.
Many of the advantages of plastic products become disadvantages when it becomes necessary to dispose of them at the end of their useful life
Time requirement for materials to be discarded and the type, quantity, and quality of microorganisms present. We tested PP packaging using ASTM D5511 and obtained 8.88% biodegradation after 30 days, while PET packaging showed 11.68% biodegradation after 30 days.
ASTM D5511 Standard (American Association for Laboratory Accreditation) for determining anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials under high solids, anaerobic digestion conditions. All products show an enhanced rate of biodegradation compared to a non-treated control sample. This is equivalent to ISO 15985, EN 15985.
